At the outset of his career, Sun Yongtian worked as a conventional lathe operator. In 2002, keeping pace with the workshop’s move toward CNC automation, he proactively retrained himself in CNC operation and programming, successfully transitioning to a new role. Despite the scarcity of learning resources in those early years, he still personally funded the purchase of specialized materials, spending over 200 yuan. After 2015, he continued to study through online platforms, investing more than 4,000 yuan in self‑purchased textbooks. Through sustained self‑directed learning, he mastered computer skills, programming commands, and hands‑on techniques, laying a solid technical foundation for process innovation and program optimization.
Deep cultivation to improve quality and efficiency, innovative processes to break production bottlenecks
Sun Yongtian adheres to the combination of learning and application, keeps an eye on the pain points of on-site production, and continuously optimizes the processing procedures and processes. In view of the problems of insufficient memory, program redundancy, frequent deletion and transmission of programs, and easy scrapping of the first piece, he made an in-depth study and judgment: the original round-trip processing required two sets of similar programs, occupying a large amount of machine tool memory, while the machine tool could only store 300 programs, seriously restricting production efficiency and product quality.
After repeated debugging and calculation, he innovatively used the workpiece coordinate offset process, deleted redundant programs, doubled the memory utilization rate of the machine tool, expanded the program storage capacity from 300 to 500-600, effectively solved the problems of frequent program replacement, unstable processing, scrapping of the first piece, etc., and realized shortened processing time, reduced production cost and stable product quality. At the same time, he systematically combed practical experience and compiled standardized teaching materials to provide important reference for workshop standard programming operations.

After serving as a full-time programmer, Sun Yongtian focused on improving quality and efficiency, deep cultivation process improvement and technical research. Since then, he has led more than 100 small reforms, participated in more than 10 model worker studios and "five small" innovation special technical reforms, and won 2 second prizes and 6 third prizes for innovation projects. Innovative results are applied on the ground, optimizing the processing process, reducing equipment loss, compressing the production cycle, and upgrading the process in the booster workshop to provide solid technical support for intelligent manufacturing of enterprises.

Refining and advancing endlessly, passing on the fire from generation to generation. Sun Yongtian gave full play to the role of helping and selflessly sharing technical experience. Since 2024, public welfare skills training has been started every month, with a total of more than 20 times of training. Based on drawings, processes, and procedure cases, three sets of practical teaching methods are polished to teach students in accordance with their aptitude, so that students can understand, learn, and use them. One senior technician, two technicians and four senior workers have been trained successively to enrich the echelon of highly skilled talents in the workshop and build a solid foundation for skilled talents in the enterprise.
