At present, the typical methods for supporting the face of underground coal‑mine roadways include U‑shaped timber supports, trapezoidal timber supports, bolt‑and‑mesh support, or bolt‑and‑wire mesh support. Conventional techniques rely either on manual installation of advance roof supports or on temporary support systems, with machine‑mounted temporary supports being the most widely used approach. However, these various support methods involve numerous work steps, slow equipment relocation, low operational efficiency, high labor intensity, significant challenges in roof control, and difficulties in ensuring safety.

To address the challenges of roadway excavation support at the working face and enhance excavation efficiency, a hydraulic support system for tunneling has been developed. Leveraging hydraulic principles, this system transforms conventional support methods into a hydraulically powered mechanized approach, enabling simultaneous excavation and support operations and thereby boosting productivity. The equipment is divided into front and rear sections that mutually support each other, providing functions for side‑wall protection, roof support, and face‑section safeguarding. This invention accommodates both longitudinal undulations and lateral dip angles of the roadway, with a telescoping jack mechanism that facilitates incremental advancement. It can install multiple shield panels in a single pass and features self‑aligning steel‑belt positioning. The device can be integrated with fixed rock‑bolt rigs and wedge‑driving units, and it can also serve as an auxiliary power source for steeply inclined roadheaders, creating favorable conditions for rapid excavation. By optimizing the support process and simplifying roof and sidewall management, this solution helps ensure safe coal‑mine production.
